First Division: Paul explains the superiority of philosophy that depends on Christ.  [Colossians 2:8-12]

Principle #1: The inward sign we are united to Christ by the New Covenant is the Holy Spirit in us and the outward sign is public baptism.

Second Division: Paul compares the Colossian’s condition before and after they were captured by a philosophy that depends on Christ.  [Colossians 2:13-17]

Principle #2: Any philosophy that depends on anything but faith in Christ for salvation is hollow and deceptive.

Third Division: Paul describes the practical benefit of being captured by philosophy that depends on Christ.  [Colossians 2:18-23]

Principle #3: Staying in God’s Word and giving into the promptings of the Holy Spirit restrains the indulgence of the flesh.
